Teen residential treatment centers
Each of our alcohol and drug residential (inpatient) programs provide 24 hour care in a structured setting. Two of our four programs provide residential care (Blaine, & Plymouth). Our teen residential treatment center’s programming includes 24-hour supervision, structured setting, and all meals. Much like our outpatient programs, residential treatment includes clinical groups, lectures (psycho-educational groups), education, family counseling/family night lectures, and recreation. Residential and outpatient programming includes random drug screens to ensure that our clients are not using.
Since our clients in residential programs will return to their homes we like to include their community in some form. For instance, our On-Belay locations provide off-campus recreation or support group attendance and our Blaine program provides in house community support groups that come to the facility. For some clients, they may also have probation, social workers or others involved in their care. When this is the case, we like to include those persons in our client’s treatment to ensure that they are being provided full continuity of care and to discuss progress. In addition, we are aware that education is also important so we work closely with local school districts to transfer credits earned while attending our programs.
Our program in Blaine, Anthony Louis Center, provides intensive primary treatment programming with an average length of stay ranging from 30-45 days. Our Blaine location offers outpatient and residential treatment and provides programming to both male and female adolescents. Although our male and female clients are restricted in contact, they do have some mixed clinical programming.
Our gender-specific programs, On-Belay Plymouth (male), provide longer-term residential care. These programs are primarily meant to be extended care programs ranging from 60-120 days. However, there can be significant variation in the length of stay based on many different factors such as environmental circumstances, need for longer clinical stay or progress. We are also able to provide longer primary treatment at these programs, which would include 45-60 day length of stay as well.
Since clients in our residential programs are there for 24 hours, we pre-schedule our entire day so that way there is always something to do. Below you will find sample schedules for our clients. Each location provides a different set of programming, but for the most part, is pretty consistent. Also, although these are our standard schedules, they do often change based on clinical needs, season changes, special activities, holidays or family visits. Weekends are a bit more flexible, but also provide on-going structure. Also, to ensure safety, our technician or clinical staff are present with our clients at all times- while providing a reasonable degree of privacy.
In regards to medical care, it is important for families or caregivers to know that our programs provide limited medical care. We have an RN at all residential locations; however, we do not provide on-site 24-hour medical care. Our clients are provided their medications as prescribed and we do have some standing orders for clients to manage general pain, headaches, or other mild illness (ex: Tylenol). However, should a medical emergency arise we will call emergency services and the individual will be brought to the ER via ambulance. In such circumstances, we request that families meet us at the ER. Last, given the importance of medical needs, we ask that clients come with a full 30 day supply of current medications, written prescriptions or orders and have any medication for allergies or asthma. All medication, even over the counter, should have a prescription, otherwise, we will not be able to provide that medication.
After the completion of residential treatment, clients have a formal environmental plan completed, relapse prevention strategies in place and step down to another level of care. Most clients complete and attend an IOP program close to home after residential is completed.
See our admission section for a more detailed description of items that should be brought or left at home for residential programming.
